The cannibalism and sexual misconduct allegations first went public in January 2021 and included several screenshots of Hammer’s conversations with multiple women. The screenshots showed his strange messages referring to his desire to consume the blood and flesh of the women.

After that, more women accused Hammer of sexual misconduct and sexual and emotional abuse, which quickly went viral. He immediately denied all the allegations but was dropped by his talent agency and personal publicist soon after.

Hammer also exited multiple film projects he was featured in, such as “Shotgun Wedding” with Jennifer Lopez, “Gaslit” with Sean Penn and Julia Roberts, and Taika Waititi’s “Next Goal Wins.” The controversy was a hot topic for months on social media, with multiple celebrities calling for an official investigation.

During the interview with Air Mail, Hammer also revealed that a youth pastor once sexually abused him when he was only 13 years old. The “Death on the Nile” actor said the experience was what triggered his interest in BDSM and his weird sexual interests.

He said, “What that did for me was it introduced sexuality into my life in a way that was completely out of my control. I was powerless in the situation. I had no agency in the situation. Sexuality was introduced to me in a scary way where I had no control. My interests then went to: I want to have control in the situation, sexually.”

Hammet said he’d shared the alleged sexual assault with an older friend, who died years ago, and with his godmother, Candace Garvey. Garvey confirmed the actor’s account of his childhood trauma to the magazine.

Hammer talked about how he would “scoop up” young women and introduce them into his world of “travel and sex and drugs.”

The actor said in his interview per People, “I had a very intense and extreme lifestyle, and I would scoop up these women, bring them into it —into this whirlwind of travel and sex and drugs and big emotions flying around — and then as soon as I was done, I’d just drop them off and move on to the next woman, leaving that woman feeling abandoned or used.”
