Echard, who is now a health coach, received criticism for how he handled the hearts of his final three contestants; Echard revealed to Rachel Recchia and Gabby Windey, who would both go on to share the ‘Bachelorette’ title as a result, he had not only fallen in love with both women but with Evans as well. Evans’ experience on the show came to a halt after she decided to exit early.

Echard and Evans both announced their split on Instagram in mid-September.

The duo’s split happened shortly after they began living together in Virginia Beach but soon decided to pursue a long-distance relationship.

At the time, Echard discussed their mutual decision in an interview on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast, revealing the pair had been in a “really, really good spot” leading up to their mutual moves.

“Thankfully, she’s been by my side and that’s why I can sit here with so much positivity is because of her,” he told Us Weekly per our report announcing the couple’s split.

In the couple’s Instagram statement, they revealed they had gone through painful moments within their relationship.

“We know no healthy relationship comes without its struggles, but we’ve realized that we were not prepared for the external forces that hindered our ability to not only heal as individuals but also as a couple,” an excerpt of their Instagram statement read.

Echard and Evans made an extremely vulnerable decision to reveal more details surrounding their breakup on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s podcast, “Off The Vine,” in early October.

Echard candidly revealed “There were all of these unknowns, and I think it put me in a place of instability. Plus, with all of the backlash from the show, it became very overwhelming very quickly. And so, I think what ended up happening is I was trying to figure out [what] my next step was, [and] I started questioning who I was because of all of the negativity…” he told Bristowe.

As for Evans, she felt she was unable to provide the stability Echard needed amid his struggle, and revealed she had felt “unsure” about being able to do so.

Evans would also vulnerability admit she hadn’t been able to comply with her ex-boyfriend’s request for more time to heal following the end of his ‘Bachelor’ season.

“…I want to be two whole people,” she said in reference to her desire to give Echard what he needed, while also remaining true to herself and her needs.

In an interview with Us Weekly, Evans told the publication how well the duo are both doing- which can be attributed to the distance they keep from each other.

“I pretty much told Clayton, and I was like, ‘I’m comfortable with however this is going to work for both of us. I respect you and I love you and I don’t want to do anything that’s gonna be harmful for you- whether that’s staying in touch or not staying in touch,” she explained.

She continued, “Because I feel like, ultimately, we both knew we were not compatible and I think, for him, he was able to express to me that he didn’t think it was gonna be good to stay in touch. So we don’t really stay in touch…”

Sometimes those painful relationship decisions can be the best for all parties involved! While Echard is concentrating on his new health app, Evans still spends her time as a wedding photographer.
