Actor Daniel Radcliffe is really wearing his heart on his sleeve with this news!
With the “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” special only days away, fans can’t wait to get more information on the candid cast conversations that took place behind the scenes. The stars of the eight-film series are revealing more information than ever before, including all of the on-set crushes that took place while they were filming!
Although Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) has been pretty candid with her crush on Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) during their early years of filming, Radcliffe (Harry Potter) revealed that he had a crush of his own… on Helena Bonham Carter!
Daniel Radcliffe Wrote Helena Bonham Carter A Love Letter!
Radcliffe apparently wrote the letter back when they finished filming in 2011. Radcliffe was around 21 at the time, whereas Helena Bonham Carter, who played Bellatrix LeStrange, was 45, so there’s a decent age gap between the pair! Not only did Radcliffe keep the letter, but he also read it out loud to her during the special!
“Dear HBC,” Radcliffe reads as he begins the letter. “It was a pleasure being your costar and coaster in the sense that I always ended up holding your coffee.”
“I do love you,” he continued. “And I just wish I had been born 10 years earlier I might have had] a chance. Lots of love and thanks for being cool.”
Although the relationship wasn’t meant to be, Radcliffe revealed that his “first girlfriends” – plural- were all connected to “Harry Potter” in some way!
The ‘Harry Potter’ Cast Gave Each Other Dating Advice Behind The Scenes!
“Every part of my life is connected to ‘Potter’,” Radcliffe admits in one clip. “My first kiss is connected to someone here. My first girlfriends were here. It all spirals out from the part of set somewhere.”
Although it seems Radcliffe doesn’t kiss and tell, he revealed that a lot of his costars started dating during “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” which was the fourth film in the series. Radcliffe jokingly referred to the time as “peak hormone.”
Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom, admitted, “There were crushes and people went out with each other and broke up just like you do in school. It was exactly the same environment but it was just in a Defense Against the Dark Arts class.”
Radcliffe joked that he would ask Watson, the film’s sole female lead, for dating advice. Not only that, but he revealed that the friends found themselves “prepping and coaching” each other how to answer flirty text messages they received from their costars!
“If she was texting a boy or I was texting a girl, I would be like, ‘She sent me this many kisses back, What do I do?’” Radcliffe joked. “This is a nightmare.”
Emma Watson had previously revealed that she had actually seriously considered quitting the franchise after the “fame thing had finally hit home in a big way.”
The “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” is available to stream on HBO Max on January 1, 2022.
