Kanye West Reportedly Opening ‘Donda Academy,’ Recruiting Top High School Prospects

Kanye West has experienced huge success outside of his music, such as with his Yeezy sneakers and apparel. This includes a 10-year collaboration deal, that he inked with GAP, in the summer of 2020. Now, it appears like Ye is looking to help the youth as well, as he is planning to open his own school later this year.

Kanye To Open The ‘Donda Academy’

According to Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of Bally Sports, Kanye is reportedly set to open his “Donda Academy,” by the end of 2021. This is said to be opening in Southern California, in the Los Angeles area. In addition to getting this school running, Kanye is also looking to make this institution a basketball powerhouse.

5-star Recruit Jahki Howard To Transfer To Donda Academy

Jahki Howard, who is one of the top basketball prospects in the state of Georgia, will be transferred to the Donda Academy. On Tuesday, he took to his Instagram feed, to explain his decision to do so.

“I will be moving to California and I will be transferring to Donda academy,” Howard said. “I want to THANK YOU NORCROSS and the whole BLUE DEVIL FAMILY STILL WILL BE MY FAMILY. #donda”

Howard is currently in the class of 2024 and is being recruited by schools such as Auburn, Georgetown, Florida, Florida State, and East Carolina.

Howard Says ‘Its Cool’ To Be Heading To Donda Academy

Robinson and Bally Sports also stated that Howard said in a text message that “it’s cool” to attend Kanye’s school, and that for him, it’s all business. The goal for him though is to become a better player, though.

“But it’s still a business like it’s cool to be in Cali and play with Kanye school but still gotta focus on getting better,” Howard explained.”

Kanye Is Working On Assembling Basketball Staff For Donda Academy

West is also reportedly still in the process of putting together the basketball team at Donda Academy, including coaches. As of now, there is still no head coach hired. As of now though, NBA Champion & former Warriors, 76ers and Blazers forward Dorell Wright, is currently working with Donda Academy’s Sports Development Program. The school has already been able to land other prospects as well though, such as Jalen Hooks and Robert Dillingham. There is also said to be discussions of setting up a game between Donda Academy and Sierra Canyon, the school that LeBron James’ son attends.
