Nicolas Cage Vows To Never Retire From Acting

Nicolas Cage has built a career that’s seen him be featured in over 100 movies to this point. Hate him or love him he’s left his mark in the world of cinema. Granted, the last few years of his career will be remembered for a string of box office bombs. At this point, there’s an argument to be made that his presence in a movie isn’t necessarily a good omen for the film. Cage, though, seems to be more than content to continue working up until he has to leave this earth!

Working Is A Basic Need of His

Recently Cage had a sit down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about his upcoming movie Prisoners of the Ghostland. The film is potentially not all that promising. Since the interviewer essentially pressed Cage to reveal when he was potentially looking to retire from making movies. Cage though quickly made it clear he’s not calling it quits any time soon, saying,

“That can’t happen. To do what I do in cinema has been like a guardian angel for me, and I need it,” he went on to say, “I’m healthier when I’m working”

Nick Cage’s Struggles With Mental Health

Nick Cage has always been an actor that people have assumed isn’t in the best “head space” from time to time. Actually as the years have gone by things seem to have been getting worse for him. Getting into all sorts of legal trouble over potential assault episodes. It has long been speculated that Cage suffered from psychotic episodes. He’s never been completely forthcoming with his personal struggles. Now it seems he is opening up and saying that potentially the reason why he’s always working is because it’s like therapy to him. Saying,

“ I need a positive place to express my life experience, and filmmaking has given me that. So I’m never going to retire.”

Prisoners of the Ghostland his upcoming film will mark the 117th time that he’s been featured in a film! Out of all of those films, he says this one is the wildest to date. We are not kidding, there’s a direct quote from Cage on the movie poster admitting this! What could make the movie so wild? Well, it’s been described as a post-apocalyptic, samurai western movie, which was filmed in Japan! That description alone could be enough to give people a pretty good idea why Nick Cage is saying it’s wild. Although in the interview he does admit the comments were taken a bit out of context.

Up To His Usual Antics, But With A Wiser Mindset

We don’t want to give too much away, but there’s a point in the movie where Cage’s character has grenades strapped to his private parts. When asked about filming these scenes he randomly took the opportunity to talk about the way that he treats women in general. His response wasn’t all that related to the original question. It’s still good to hear though that he’s learned from his past legal troubles. On the way that he treats women these days he mentions,

“These times are very sensitive, man. You don’t want to do anything that could offend the opposite sex. I always try to be a gentleman,”

He’s still on board to make wild movies. He just wants to make sure that he’s always respectful while in the filmmaking process. That seems to be a good thing.
