Three People Shot In Ohio Outside Televised Football Game

Last night, a televised high school football game had to unexpectedly cut to a commercial after several gunshots were fired outside of the Ohio field.

Several videos were shared on social media, many of which show the terrifying moments people at the game tried to take cover after hearing the gunshots.

Chilling images and video footage is circling social media, showing many fans taking cover and running away after hearing at least 12 gunshots at the Ohio football game.

Twitter user Chad shared a video of the incident, writing, “Here’s the moment shots were fired at the Toledo Central Catholic-Whitmer football game. This shit has to stop!”

Weekend Sports Anchor/Reporter H. Tyler Seggerman shared details of the mass shooting, writing, “#BREAKING The Central Catholic/Whitmer game has been put on pause following a shooting outside the stadium. From what I can tell, at least one woman has been shot.”

The video shows people jumping from the stands and trying to take cover on the ground. Others were running, looking for an exit or for a safe space.

The news reporter also shared what he witnessed during the terrifying incident. “My heart pours out to all those affected from last night’s incident. A senseless act of violence created fear & panic that I still can’t fathom,” he wrote.

Seggerman continued, “Mentally, I’m still shook myself reliving these images and just hope everyone who got injured makes a full & speedy recovery.”

“I’m not going to speculate on what happened, because we’re still awaiting more information. I will say, never did I imagine myself having to witness such chaos at a sporting event. It’s truly sad,” he said in a later Tweet.

Other reports released the following information:

“More than 12 gunshots were heard at the southwest corner stadium near the main entrance during the game and people in the stands were seen fleeing. Several bullet casings were seen scattered on the ground behind the field house.”

Central Catholic was beating Whitmer 46-16 when the shooting occurred. The high school football game was canceled immediately, and there are currently no plans for a makeup game.

Toledo Police Department Gives Update

The game was being played at Whitmer High School against Central Catholic when the shooting occurred.

According to the Toledo Police Department, three people — one student and two adults — were shot outside of the high school football game. Their conditions are not life-threatening,

In a statement released by Washington Local Schools Superintendent Kadee Anstadt:

“We are deeply saddened that a fun rivalry tonight was disrupted by an act of violence in the streets surrounding our event. What we know at this time is limited, and we will not speculate until further details are known. An event like this is every school district’s worst nightmare, and we ask that you keep both Central and Whitmer in your thoughts as we attempt to figure out this atrocious act.”

According to reports, investigators arrested two suspects and were searching for two more, but no further details have been released at this time.
